Chiropractor for the Soul

Here’s how it started…

One day, without knowing what was about to happen, Deborah was speaking to a friend on the phone who was telling her that she was about to become homeless because she could no longer afford to pay her rent. This woman, who’s name was Jessica, explained how she had been in bed for months with extreme pain and suicidal depression. She had been living off of savings for months and was the end of her rope. Deborah jumped into action without a second thought. “Well, let me help you!” After saying it, she realized that she had no idea how to help or why she even said it. The response to her friend’s skeptical “ok…?” was, “Can I pray for you?” Jessica hesitantly agreed. Since Deborah’s mobile phone was about to lose power, she told Jessica that she would pray for her while the phone recharged and call her back afterward. They hung up the phone, and Deborah, for the first time in her life, sat down to pray for someone else.

By this time in her life, Deborah’s belief in prayer had already become firmly solidified, as she herself had lost almost everything in her life due to debilitating illness and depression and had healed her body through the power of prayer. She sat down and began compiling a list of everything she could think of to pray for for Jessica. After three hours of work, Deborah simply held the list of paper with 276 items on it and asked, “God, please do all of this for Jessica.”

Fifteen minutes later, after driving back down to an area where she got phone reception, Deborah called Jessica and was met with the shock of her life. Jessica answered the phone saying, “What did you just do???!” Deborah hesitantly replied, “I don’t know, why? What happened?” Jessica was giddy with excitement as she explained, “I just got out of bed for the first time in months! I opened the windows in the bedroom, and then decided to go outside to get some sun.” Jessica explained that the pain had begun leaving her body and that she felt the depression lifting. “How did you do that???!” she asked. “I don’t know, I just prayed.” Deborah was completely shocked and didn’t know what to say, so she told Jessica that she’d call her the next day to see how she was feeling.

When they spoke the next day, Jessica explained how she had gotten out of bed that morning (which in and of itself was a miracle, according to her) and how she went out looking for a job. She explained, with more enthusiasm than Deborah had ever heard in Jessica’s voice, how she had found a great job that day and had been taken to lunch that very day by her new employers. She also explained how multiple people had approached her to tell her that she looked great and asked her what she was doing. The only response she could come up with was “I don’t know. All I can say is that there IS a higher power!”

When Deborah got back home a few minutes later, she sat stunned, staring at the piece of paper with the list of 276 items that she had compiled for Jessica. The list started with “Balance her brain chemistry, hormones, and blood sugar…” and continued with asking that Jessica be shown how to love herself, that she be able to manage her anxiety in a healthy way, and that she be able to take responsibility in life. As she scanned the list, she noticed that just about everything on that list seemed to be what Deborah, herself was lacking, so she put in a prayer request for herself as well. With more of a question than it had been with Jessica, she asked “God? Can I have everything on this list as well?” With that, Deborah’s life changed instantly and dramatically.

The next day at farmer’s market, one of her neighbors who had never spoken to Deborah before approached her to tell her that she looked great. When he asked what it was that she was doing, she responded. “I don’t know, but I feel like I just got Chiropractor for the Soul.” She explained how she felt taller, like she was standing up straighter. She felt happy and inspired for the first time in years and felt that she was more aligned with her soul somehow. She explained how it actually FELT like she received Chiropractor for the Soul!

From that day forward, Deborah offered to pray for everyone in her community that would allow her to. It was a daily thing for nearly two years. Every single day she joyously prayed for up to four hours for anybody and everybody that said “yes.” When people in the community started asking her to pray for people she didn’t even know, she began asking for donations in exchange for her time. Shortly after that, Deborah facilitated her first group session and realized that her mode of prayer was just as powerful in groups as it was with individuals. Word of mouth spread quickly and she soon found herself traveling across the country to share her work with as many people as possible.

And that’s how it started…
